30-Hour Basic Wastewater Treatment Workshop

The 30 Hr. Basic Wastewater Treatment Class is for entry-level and current grade I or II operators. This class, along with 6 months experience will satisfy the eligibility requirement for the Iowa DNR Wastewater Treatment Grade I and is a good review for anyone planning to take the Wastewater Treatment Grade II exam. The course objective is to provide operators and managers with the knowledge, skill, abilities, and judgment essential to safely operate and maintain their facilities as well as manage their facilities using appropriate financial strategies. It provides a solid foundation and builds on knowledge about wastewater sources and characteristics, math, hydraulics, lift stations, flow measurement, preliminary treatment, primary treatment, secondary treatment, disinfection, digestion, solids handling and disposal, sampling and lab, safety, administration, laws and regulations. Iowa and Nebraska approved for three CEUs for Wastewater. Fee $625

Commercial Drones: FAA Part 107 Test Prep

Get prepared for the FAA test to operate a drone. To operate an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) commercially for hire, the new FAA Part 107 regulation now requires the operator to obtain a Remote Pilot Airman Certificate with a small UAS rating, or be under the direct supervision of a person who holds such a certificate. The instructor will review material to successfully pass the FAA test. Subjects include the new regulation, airspace classifications, flight restrictions, aeronautical chart study, airport operations, radio communication, weather, human factors and more. Sample test questions will also be reviewed. Class meets March 13, 15 and 21. Fee $89

MSHA Annual Refresher

This course is annual refresher instruction designed to train and recertify persons for Part 46 & 48B surface training for underground mines. Refresher classes are not comprehensive in scope; participants should meet the MSHA definition of "experienced miner." Fee $80

MSHA New Miner Training

This course, delivered by an MSHA approved cooperative trainer, must be taken if an individual is going to work at a mine site for the first time. Hands-on, interactive instruction covers MSHA Part 46 & 48B surface training for underground mines, and health and safety issues relevant to mining operations and its employees. Fee $255

Certified Food Protection Manager

Iowa Western's Food Safety course is an 8 hour class followed by the national certification exam. Our food safety classes give a food handler essential knowledge and understanding of the fundamental food safety practices they need to carry out their work. Topics covered in the course include: foodborne illness and contamination, receiving food, storing food, preparing and serving food, personal hygiene, cleaning and sanitation, pest prevention, HACCP and inspections. The course is designed for individual working in restaurants, assisted living, long-term care, school food service programs. Test is from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Please register at least 5 business days prior to class so that there is time for book to be mailed. Fee $120
